DPF issue?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Recently bought a second hand Ford Focus ST diesel 2015/16 model (17Kish on the clock when bought but now done 18Kish after like 3/4weeks). Do a lot of motorway and a-roads driving each week but one day the 'engine warning light' came on so had it quickly checked at Kwikfit. They said it's the DPF that needs replacing/attention and can only be done/checked at Ford.

Since then I have noticed:

- Engine sounds a bit different

- Fuel consumption is noticeably higher

- Auto Stop/Start has stopped

---

After doing some hard motorway/a-road runs, the auto start started working again and the fuel consumption seems to be back to normal BUT the light is still on?

Please could anyone advise on similar experiences?

Any help appreciated!

Many thanks

P.S. Checked in on ETIS and it states: DW10 FUEL SENSOR CLIP, 16P15 RECALL - Not sure if this is the cause of the light?

I refuse to believe it's the DPF at such low mileage, maybe a blocked fuel filter but either way get the sensor clip sorted out and replace the fuel filter, get yourself an ELM cable to diagnose the fault yourself using Forscan

The only thing I can think of is that the car hasn't been able to run a successful DPF regen for quite some time and therefore the soot load level is too high and requires a manual/static regeneration.

Without actually seeing what the engine management is throwing up we will never know.

Secondly, you're still under warranty... just. Get it back to Ford rather than Sh*tfit.

Just an update on the actually issue. Did end up taking the car to Ford and literally took them forever to find out the issue. Eventually the issue was resolved and the issue was:

- One of the exhaust sensor cable has deteriorated causing the DPF regeneration process to lost its mind (Ford has said they have never have thought that was the issue) lol.

---

They did think it was requiring a forced regen but that only solved the issue temporarily before the engne light came straight back on even after a hard reset since their computers didn't pick up any error codes? (Kwikfit picked up the DPF error code)
