Engine swap black to silver top ????

Featured Replies

I'm after some info as the title says, can i take a 2.0 black top zetec out of a w plate mondeo and put in a silver top from an earlier mondeo, also does it have to be replaced by a 2.0, can i put an 1.8 in instead, i ain't right up on all this ecu stuff.

And the mondeo in question is an auto if that makes any difference.

Thanks Bryan

You'll find no one will give you a straight answer on here as they'll be putting they're neck on the line if you hell out the cash and it don't work but from previous conversations and experience the silver tops are definately interchangeable with each other. the only thing you will have to check is if both original and donor car had air con etc 2nd of all No I don't think you can change black for silver and vice versa

itcan be done but requires a lot of work why would you want a 2l auto? youd need the whole unit engine gearbox etc the water pump would need modified the sump would need done etc etc wouldnt even bother if its as focus you can take even a newer 1.8 and fit it this type of thing requires skill and i cant advise anymore as i just dont know mate

one thing i do remember is i know someone that took a 1.6 fiesta zetec with a blown engine and dropped a 2.0ltr lump straight in. best bet is source some more info from a few local garages.

oh and yes the auto could make a difference as i think the guy who done the fiesta conversion used an auto lump and i think there is something to do with inhibitor switches etc on the auto side
