Yes, a high pitched whine. Either ignition on or some later Fords prime as soon as the drivers door is opened. It'll only last for a few seconds until the desired start-up pressure is reached. I've got fairly sensitive hearing and can usually hear them from the drivers seat, but really anywhere inside the car with the door closed should be good, as that'll cut out any other noises from outside. Under the backseat is as close as you can get to it.

Looks like the cable has stretched. Needs a new cable really. Only available as part of the handle from Ford. Genuine Ford Focus MK3 Focus Estate MK3 Bonnet Release Lever 1804625 | eBay Best you could do for now is remove the cable from the lever so you can pull that directly instead of the lever pulling against it. Or just push the latch manually now you know how it's done.

Thanks for your reply. The bonnet lifts up just enough for me to reach the actual lock, and I managed to unlock it by pushing it to the left using my finger. And this reveals what the problem is - the cable is actually still intact, but it is too slack, and the yellow latch does not seem to move far enough to pull the cable at all (see photo). The left photo shows the original position of the yellow latch, the right photo shows as far as it would go. As you can see, it is not a lot. The other end of the cable is fitting tight to the bonnet lock. Is there a quick fix? The yellow latch seems to be locked somehow. Many thanks!

FORScan for use on a windows laptop is free, or you can buy the licence for £12 if you want to do some of the more advanced programming. If you want to use the phone version of FORScan then it is a one off payment of £7 You will be able to read all stored DTC's with FORScan and of course clear/reset any problems once the faults have been repaired.

Government funding is always mentioned in trying to promote EVs. Here's the thing. Government deals in humongous quantities of money which are just above the conceptional understanding of most ordinary folk. Let's take just 3 recent high profile spends of government. 1) HS2 £100 Billion 2) Covid PPE squandered at £10 Billion 3) Covid 'track & trace' £37 Billion tossed down the drain Those 3 items alone could have bought outright (not subsidised) over 6 Million (6,000,000) EVs to give out to the population. That's why I'm a big fan of the cash society, avoid giving government any tax earnings as they genuinely have no idea how to spend our money and squander it on the most atrocious projects, and that's governments of all flavours...

Thanks for that, should the pump start priming when the ignition is turned on? And wheres the best place to be able to hear it? In the boot, or under the back seat? Should it sound like a whirring noise? So the Forscan will pick up things the RAC plug in couldn't ? Thanks again for the help

There's no way of testing the pump motor for that particular fault that I can think of. The usual confirmation is that it can't be heard priming initially, and can then be heard priming after tapping the tank. If the pump is definitely still priming when it doesn't start then it's something else entirely though. In that case, it would be worth getting Forscan and doing your own test for Ford specific codes which won't be picked up by the generic garage readers, and also doing your own live data checks, such as confirming good fuel pressure when it's not starting.

How far does the bonnet lift on the first catch? Effectively you need to do the same job as that cable, using a long, thin metal tool, to push the catch across, but the bonnet may not have enough height for that? Alternatively you can jack it up, remove the undertray, reach up from underneath and then pull the the catch across with your fingers.

Hi TomsFocus thanks for the reply, the first call out listened to the pump said it was running ok, is there any way of testing the pump before someone drops the tank and changes it?, as it'll be a costly repair.

You could just run an M10 die nut down the stud which will clean it and re-thread it at the same time. Just be careful that you use the correct thread pitch, there is an M10x1.5mm and an M10x1.25mm

Sounds like traffic flow cameras. They check the level of traffic as a whole rather than checking individual vehicle speed.

Nice to know no cows were harmed in the manufacture of these seats, just the poor old environment with all the petro chemicals used 🤣

A Dremel with small rotary wire brush would be quicker.

The fact that it runs fine after starting suggests more likely to be a faulty tank pump motor than wiring. If the motor settles in a 'dead' section when switched off, it won't be able to start again. Knocking the tank just shifts it slightly round into the next section. Same as with a faulty starter motor. I think the EasyStart was a coincidence. Unfortunately, you will have to drop the fuel tank on these to check the motor and the wiring, as I don't think there's an inspection hatch under the seats on Mk4.

The clue is in the name 🤣 ....and as Tom has said it is Sync2.

That's Sync2. It can be upgraded to Sync3 but you would need to replace the APIM module.
