Hub Nut

Featured Replies

Hi folks, after watching a few youtube videos it seems the general consensus that hub nut removal is a 1 time thing, so once its off you MUST use a brand new one, my question is, is this definitely the case or just attention to detail? can the same nuts be used over and over?

The nuts are single use so you are meant to replace them each time...not everyone does though.  If you've got the stacked type nut (5 thin nuts clamped together) it's definitely worth replacing that as they're a pain to remove if they fall apart next time.

is this rear hub?    why do you need to get it off? if it is to get to the brakes then I believe the correct way is to    a)not touch the hub nut         b) go to the back of the brake plate and remove the four bolts - this releases the drum/hub/stub axle all as one unit.     If you have ABS you need to remove the abs sensor at the back of the brake plate before undoing the 4 big bolts.

that is certainly how you do it on mk6.5  , i think mk6 is probably same but not 100% certain

This is just a general wondering for hub nuts back and front, not for any particular repair, so if you Can use them more than once why is it recommended you don't?
