Noise from rear over bumps

Featured Replies

Happy New Year to you all!!

Recently starting to hear a rear noise over bumps on my 2009 Focus. It has done 69k miles.

I used to drive mk3 mondeo's, and they suffered from rear subframe bushes going around this mileage. Do the Focus's suffer from the same issue?

If not, are the rear anti roll bar droplinks prone to wearing out on these cars? I've checked the springs, and both seem fine.

Anything else I should check?

Many thanks....

I've have the rear trailing arm bushes replaced on ours around 102k with shocks n top mounts after some knocking. Springs. On mine are fine also, but knocking still there.  Have u checked spare is tight?

Good shout... Will check spare and boot accessories are secure in the morning.

Checked all in boot and made sure everything is secure. Will see if that has helped over the next few days.

Make sure the swaybar links are still there they poke out at the bottom one of mines has sheared off tonight and you get the wee guy knocking in your boot sound lol

I had the same last year on a 2008 at 80K miles. It sounded like something clattering in the rear over bumps, so checked the rear seats and spare tyre well etc. definitely worth checking... Changing the anti-roll bar links made it all quiet again 🙂

Anti roll bar links will be my next stop, if it is still an issue over the weekend... Especially when they are cheap and I assume a DIY job to fit?

I think it’s a good idea to torque the links rather than risking being to loose or over tightening 👍
