corroded front subframe

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

took my car to the garage this morning for a new clutch, get there to pay and they tell me my front subframe is corroded, an MOT fail. Great news after spending 570 on a new clutch job.

Anyway, my MOT is due next month and he said he would give me a quote tomorrow, anybody able to give me a rough idea of how much it should be?

Think they charge 80 an hour for labour at that garage.

For a new aftermarket subframe and fitting I'd estimate around £650. (More for genuine or less for used).

Seems odd though, not a single advisory for rust on previous MOTs and then suddenly the front subframe is so far gone it's an MOT fail? I'd take it somewhere else for a second opinion tbh.

That’s what I was thinking it’s not like I live near the sea or anything tbh… though I didn’t own the car at its last MOT so it could have been dodgy perhaps.. I wouldn’t know but the garage I bought from was well-reviewed
