Daughter got her zetec s today, 2009 model. The radio screen and lights round about it stay after the ignition is switched off and key removed. A few folk seem to have this issue with their cars, has anyone found the cause and a cure? 

 

This is normal behaviour on the mk7. You'll find after a few mins (or maybe 20 I can't remember) or then it goes off. They should also go off soon after you lock the car, if not then there's something wrong.

As long as they go off when you lock the doors then it’s fine, as Luke says it’s quite normal for them to stay on if the doors aren’t locked. I thought it was 15minutes if the doors weren’t locked

Think it’s a mk6, March 2009. It is locked, possibly something wrong with a lock then ? 

2009 is a mk7. The mk7.5 (facelift) was 2013 and mk6.5 was up to 2008.

When you lock the car, can you still open it when you pull on the handle? If not then it's not to do with the locks. It's not something simple is it like youve left the headlights on or an interior light?

No the doors and boot are locked, none of them open. Headlights off and all interior lighting off too. 

They think it’s a faulty radio causing the lights to stay on. 

Maybe something in this thread can help, few different causes and things to try - 

It says a few people have sorted it by simply removing and replacing the fuse for the radio, others have found it's incompatible mobile phones causing it, Blackberry in particular.
