MOT QUERY - WINDOW FAULT

Featured Replies

Had my Fiesta MOT'd last Tuesday, only thing it failed on was both the sills needed wielding. I've had the work done to repair the sills over the weekend, picked the car up today and when i put the driver side window down it jammed, had to pull it back up by hand, still a slight gap. Any ideas what the fault could be? motor still seems to work as it kept going down and back up a little bit. As i only have a short amount of time for a free retest would the faulty window make the car fail again? cheers.

As far as I am aware they don't test the windows on an MOT, as long as it doesn't affect visability they should not care on the mot

I don't recall seeing anything in MOT manual about the windows but best to check.

manual is here:

https://www.mot-testing.service.gov.uk/documents/manuals/class3457/

You could have no window glass fitted and the tester wouldn't care less.

Afaik, a free retest only checks on the things which the vehicle failed on so the window fault shouldn't affect the outcome. I'm not sure if the new MOT regulations differ from the old ones where a full retest was not required as long as the defects were rectified.

Thre is the compulsory free test (where the MOT station is not allowed to charge for the retest for simple things like lightbulbs fixed within a short time period even if the car has been taken away)   and      the voluntary free retest (where an MOT station can do free retests for anything they like within what ever period they like).

Welding repairs do not come within the compulsory free retest if the car has been taken away.

Many garages provide free retests beyond the compulsory free retest

Thanks for all the advice guys, it passed the retest 🙂 The garage also checked the faulty window, turned out the regulator had snapped. They quoted me £210 for part including fitting. Is that a fair price to pay for a part/job like that?
