Squeeky noise from wheels

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Just checked online and seen this:

Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):

  • Nearside Front wheel slight binding when rotated

---

Would this cause the steering wheel to slightly vibrate around 70mph on the motorway and also the wheels to squeek while building up speed from stationary or cruising? This issue seems to be less apparent on wet days and only become bad on dry days? How to fix and also how much does it cost roughly?

---

Also whenever going over speed bumps, can hear a squishy sound from the dampers? Is this normal?

Many thanks

P.S. Did have the brakes and wheels checked and they couldn't find any issues from Ford, Kwikfit and National Tires :S

It could cause the squeak yes.  Basically the caliper doesn't fully release so is still slightly gripping the brake all the time.  It can also cause a drop in your MPG.

The fix is either to grease the caliper slide pins which is cheap and easy, or if that fails then it'll need a caliper replacement/refurbishment which is more expensive.

Vibration around 70mph won't be caused by a binding brake, that's caused by something slightly out of balance, most likely the wheel balancing is slightly off but could also be a slightly warped brake disc, hub or occasionally the driveshaft.

Squishy sound from dampers is totally normal and usually worse in cold conditions, it's just the oil flowing through the damper, speed bumps cause a much larger damper compression and rebound than usual road bumps.

A noise over speed bumps could be from the front anti-roll bar bushes.

Thank you both for the answers, currently I am debating whether to fix it (depending on the cost) or sell the car since the vehicle is not young anymore to avoid any further maintenance cost further down the line while the car is still in working order?

Any advice would be appreciated ! 😛

In a similar position myself 🤦🏻‍♀️ My advice would be personally to pull your money out of the car while you can
