MK7 - Water in boot

Hello,

My 2008 MK7 Fiesta appears to be suffering from water in the boot. I have removed both rear light clusters and smeared silicone around the screw holes covering the plastic plugs. I have also siliconed around the rubber gasket on the rear of the light clusters where the bulbs are housed and put it back together.

Unfortunately water is still getting in, it is pooling at the bottom of the boot on both sides, just behind where the carpet goes inwards into the wing.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Is it clean water ( leaks after washing car) or dirty water sprayed up from the road when driving in rain?

I take it the car isn't sat on level ground at your house ? So many problems are caused by trapped water which is unable to drain away.

If the car is at angle, trying facing the car the other way.

Will be getting in underneath the black roof trims. Where the side panels and the roof panel meet it is covered with a bead of sealant from front to rear. Once the body Shell is painted the black strip is attached over the top using double sided tape.

It's common on the early build Mk7 for this sealant to crack with age allowing water to seep in between the panels and run into the boot area. My car was affected by the same issue, if the water is clean then this is more than likely where your problem lies.
