EML code P0490 even after new EGR

Featured Replies

I have a 2009 ford fiesta Mk7 1.4 tdci and a couple of weeks ago, the engine management light decided to show itself. I checked the light with a code reader and it was showing P0490, Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) "A" Control Circuit High. I asked my local mechanic to check the car over and he said that the egr valve needed replacing, which I have now done. The error never went away though, even after clearing it and telling the car that a new egr has been put in place. It comes back after every 2 restarts of the engine, no matter how many times you clear it. Does anyone have any ideas what else could cause that error?

Thank you.

I am not an expert. when it mentions ' high' on a circuit my understanding is that this could be caused by a bad connection or a break in the wire and not neccessarily a faulty part on the end of the wire.  My brother's Fiesta keeps coming up with three different fault codes that mention EGR in the translation of the code. I can't remember what the descriptions are but I think his point more to the EGR being faulty as opposed to just a possible wire break. I can't say yours did not have a faulty EGR but it does sound like that might not have been the fault. Unless you have a new faulty EGR also which could happen. Was it a decent make part or the cheapest ebay type part?

Thanks for the response. I am not sure what the part would have been, but I know the mechanic I used to get the work done wouldn't have bought an eBay special for it. How easy would it be to check if it is a wiring fault?
