Overheating and other issues

Featured Replies

Hi and thanks for looking at my post.

I have a mark 4 Mondeo 2.0 TDCI Zetec.

The temp gauge has stopped working most of the time. It used to sit on 1/2 100% of the time. Today it went all the way to the red and cut out the engine while on the motorway (I guess this is a heat cut off thing) I waited a few mins for it to cool and after I did that it started again.

There is also no hot air coming from the vents.

The fan is working as it was on after my car was off. It was on for quite a while so could this be a problem?

It seems to be using quite a bit of coolant.

If anyone could help that would be great as I have already had to have the engine replaced a year ago after the belt snapped.

Cheers,

Dan

Just filled up the water and anti freeze and well its took about 5 pints to fill it back up. The heat works again now. Could it just be i didn't have enough water in it?

Defo coz u didnt have enough water in the system.  However where did all the water go is the question.  Could be since of a problem coming up.  Check the water daily and make sure its not mixing with the oil and making it milky in colour.  Also check all the hoses and radiator. are you blowing out more smoke out of the exhaust?

As above, when was the last time you ROUTINELY checked the coolant level.? From now on until the problem is resolved check the level diligently and regularly. Carry a container of mixed coolant with you on case you need to top  it up whilst out. Often, the coolant pump is a source of the leak, if you can, take a look below the pump for any dried-up antifreeze deposits.
