08 Mondeo 1.8 tdci QYBA engine, what's the difference between QYBA, QYWA, KKDA and KHBA?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Like so many others the wet belt has snapped on my 08 Mondeo 1.8 tdci econetic. There is known valve damage and from what I've read it's highly likely to have also wrecked the pistons too so the engine is not worth repairing. I've seen so many ads for 1.8 tdci engines with different codes, QYBA, QYWA, KKDA and KHBA, they all seem to be interchangeble. What's the difference between them all?

I've found a choice of QYBA and KKDA at the local breakers, does the KKDA have a chain not a wet belt?

Thanks in advance.

Matt

Update: have taken a look and my mondeo has a KHBA engine not QYBA as previously told.

There are some subtle differences such as the latter version that was in the MK4 Mondy was missing an air temp sensor that was present on the older versions.

There's one on ebay now for £800.

Nice weekend job!

Nice weekend job!

Probably better using https://www.partsgateway.co.uk/ I've used it for a few used bits including a used MTX-75 box for my MK2 Focus without any problems.  It's handy having the different scrappers competing against each other on price.

That's useful to know!
