Ford Mondeo 2006 Blower Motor, Mexico

Featured Replies

Hello!

I am currently living in Mexico and have owned a 2006 Ford Mondeo Core for a little over a year. Recently, after returning from a trip out of the country, I returned to my car and the blower motor had failed. The best price I was finding locally for the motor is $8000 pesos, or around $400 USD...

I've been looking online for parts that I could import (as it will most likely be cheaper) but the model numbers I'm seeing don't line up with the model that I have.

I have found a part in China that is a blower motor for the "Ford Mondeo MK3 2002-2006" AND I'm wondering if that would line up with the Ford Mondeo 2006 Core. Does anyone have any idea if those align?

Thanks so much for reading this post... Getting the air conditioning working on this car is pretty important given the location, but spending $400+ just for the part seems crazy.

Hi, hopefully someone on here will be able to help ($400+ for a blower does seem rather crazy).  Unfortunately Ford (as do most other manufacturers) uses different part numbers for different geographical areas, even if the part is "technically" the same.

In Mexico do you not have a site like this? https://www.partsgateway.co.uk/ where you can input the details of what parts you need and different scrap yards/vehicle recycling companies will send you their best price?

Hi, have you looked on www.catcar.info to get the  Ford finis code for the blower? Inputting your vin into Catcar will then show you the parts specific to your own car's build.

It's a 7-digit part number thats used by Ford's logistics system. You can then do a search using that

Another parts site to try is

https://ford.7zap.com/en/car/99/

I've successfully used 7zap loads of times, if the vehicle VIN is used it often provides REALLY detailed info i.e. if a DPF was optional on a particular car/engine combination it can tell from the VIN if it had one fitted originally and presents the appropriate diagrams/part numbers.

Unfortunately I don't know of any sites like that here that enable you to reach out to junkyards and recycling locations. Sounds amazing though!

The other sites were very useful for finding info about my exact model, which is great. Thanks! Unfortunately, unless I'm missing something, there is zero mention of the climate control parts on those lists. Example: http://www.catcar.info/ford/?lang=en&l=bWFya2V0PT1ldXJvfHxjYXRfaWQ9PTcwNXx8Y2FiYnI9PUdFfHx0aGs9PTB8fHN0PT0zMHx8c3RzPT17IjIwIjoiRXVyb3BlIiwiMzAiOiJNb25kZW8gR0UgMjAwMC0yMDA3In18fEFDPT1BQzBCMA%3D%3D

I'll keep digging through, maybe it's been sorted into a weird category or something.

Thanks so much for the responses so far everyone, much appreciated!

So in a roundabout way through Google I found myself back on the 7zap site and located the category that the blower was in for the Ford Mondeo 2006 GE! I found the original part number, and then a part that supposedly replaces it on Amazon, and I should have it in a week or two: $70 USD shipped. That's a bit better! Now to just cross my fingers that I've ordered the right part...

Thanks so much for all of your responses and for helping me to find the info I needed. You saved me close to $400!!!

So I received the part and brought it over to my mechanic this morning. I knew going in that the part wasn't an exact replacement, but that it was listed online as a part that could replace it.

They were able to install it and it's working well, but there was one weird thing... The body is the same for both motors, but on the side of the original Ford part, there is something they were calling a resistor. It was a small piece that almost looked like some kind of heatsink, and he said that the piece itself is the expensive part of the motor. He kept saying something about how he thinks it cools the motor. Keep in mind this is through my awful understanding of Spanish, so I'm thinking resistor might not be the right word...

The new motor didn't have that piece, but it installed and is currently working better than I've ever seen the fan function since owning the car. I'm just hoping it isn't going to overheat and burst into flames without me noticing there is a problem. haha

EDIT: This is what the piece looks like: https://es.aliexpress.com/item/32764621219.html The New motor didn't have a spot for this piece.

More information

a blower motor resistor is usually to reduce the speed of the fan.  so if for example the fan has 4 speeds on the switch, the highest speed does not use a resistor but each slower speed speed uses a different amount of resistance to reduce the voltage to the motor to reduce the fan speed. but then I would expect the resistor to have 4 pins on it for the connector.

That one in the pic only has two so I still don't really know the purpose of it exactly (I am guessing there is another resistor pack elsewhere to control the different speeds. . but if your old one had that resistor and the new one does not, and you say the fan runs better than ever, it sound like the old one had that resistor to reduce the fan speed even at top speed, which seems a strange thing to do. I would have thought the windings on the motor would just have been different to make sure the fan did not go faster than intended. if you have still got the old fan, if you put a circuit tester across the resistor terminals does it show continuity with resistance or nothing. if nothing then maybe resistor burnt out and then you may have got it working just by bridging the two wires on the resistor, although it might have gone faster.

That's what I thought with the resistor also, I expected that the fan could only be on or off without it and I'd lose control of the fan. But instead, the control still works, the fan works better (I think the other one has been on its way out since I bought the car), and the piece isn't being used... It's weird that my mechanic said he thought it was to cool the fan... which kind of sounds funny.

Have a small road trip coming up soon through some areas with no cell signal. It will probably wait to catch fire until then. haha
