Aftermarket warning device?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I’m new here and now the proud owner of a 2008 Mondeo Titanium 2.5T. I picked it up today. What a superb motor. I am so excited about owning this car! 🙂

I have a question I was hoping someone might be able to help me with. What is this? (See attached image). It’s mounted upside down in the back above the centre seat .

I’m a bit of a noob here to be honest, always been a new car driver, no mods or anything fun like that. I have no clue! So I’ve got a lot to learn! But I’m well excited!

So this apparent aftermarket device beeps like crazy under hard acceleration and high revs. It  shows some numbers (gear i think) and rev like indicators. But it does nothing most of the time.  I thought at first it might be a warning of cold engine or something, but after 80 miles on the motorway, when I get off, it still beeps! Like I say  ....no clue?

Any help/advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

I tried googling it, but any search on warning indicators just returns stuff and on the chimes or active lane assist stuff, and it’s non of that.

Thank you for reading my post. I hope you can help.

Alex

Looks like an aftermarket reverse sensor system.

Okay thanks. Makes sense with the left/right markers. Clearly faulty. The thing needs to go I think. Just need to make sure it’s not telling me something is wrong with the engine or car. All seems fine to me having driven over 100 miles in it already. The beeping from this thing is annoying and distracting! Thanks again.

Does it have sensors on the rear of the car? See if you can follow the wires from the back of the unit

Usually with a system like that the sensors can be drilled into the bumper or just stuck on with the wires showing.
If nothing is showing then just pop the trim off where the unit is and cut off the wires & tape them off for insulation.

Thanks everyone. Good find @Stoney871

i think the engine vibrates the sensors under high revs then and sets them off. Makes sense now. I was totally confused by this thing. It does need to go!

i am surprised it has an aftermarket device though. I thought the Titanium had rear sensors as standard. 🤔

It's a little odd because they should only receive power when in reverse, if wired in correctly obviously.

I wonder if there is a bad earth, that could mean the reverse lights also come on [emoji2369]

What happens when you are actually reversing, does this monitor work or do you have belong from elsewhere?

It’s all odd to be honest. It works properly in reverse sometimes but not consistently. The kind of beeping is not consistent either. Just don’t trust it.

maybe something up with wiring like you say. It goes off under hard cornering I found out today too.

I have it booked in for a gold service and inspection at a local garage on Monday and will ask them to take a look at it. Would be good if it worked, but I’m inclined to think it’s ***** and should probably just remove it.

That's the problem with aftermarket gear, hard to diagnose where the failt lies.
Could be a bad sensor, loose connection or a random power fault.
As the kit is dirt cheap it may be worth buying a new unit and swap a couple of bits to see what happens.

Thanks for your help Stoney. As the kit is dirt cheap, I’m inclined to not bother with it. Get what you pay for I guess. Just get rid of it I think. But will trace a few wires and see if there is anything obvious before I disconnect it. Cheers.
