Mk7 Fiesta Hazard Switch Issue

Featured Replies

Hi, wife's Fiesta has an issue with the hazard switch button on the dash. You have to push it VERY hard to get it to work and has slowly got worse.

Seen the switches on eBay and found another thread on here about replacing it that I've linked here, but my question is...

Will there be any warning/fault lights on the dash that would need clearing after unplugging the switch (as long as I don't unplug anything else)?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I cant see there be any issues with fault codes etc needing clearing.

Thanks for the reply. Just in case anybody comes across this in the future...

No issues caused by unplugging it and plugging back in. However, the switch I bought which was supposed to be compatible after putting the car reg in wasn't. Wife's Fiesta is maybe a bit older as the hazard/lock switch was not an individual switch but one whole circuit board under the set of stereo buttons. So put it back together and the button worekd fine again, probably just some dirt under there.

Out of interest but when our Fiesta was just 3 months old the hazard lights came on by themselves, pressed the hazard light switch and it was very very stiff, that stiff it was hard to press in & out, took the car back to Ford and they said a fair few are coming back with faulty switches, our switch was renewed with an upgraded version, something to do with the spring/locking mechanism, our car is a 10 plate.

There must be several different versions... This one worked via the plastic outer button pushing onto the rubber backing which then pushed the little rubber gromet circles onto the circuit board. No idea how it works and won't even pretend to 😄 Couple photos I took of it below...

SOLVED... Know this was a while ago but couldn't find this solution on any other forum etc where people have reported similar issues so hopefully this helps somebody...

After seemingly being ok for a year the button started playing up again so took the unit out to get the part number. Upon closer inspection noticed the little black rubber foot thingy had broken apart in one side of the hazard button poppers. This made sense as the button seemed to work better when pushing on one side of it. So ended up cutting one of the black bits off of the number keypad part of the rubber backing and super gluing it into the disintegrated one on the hazard switch. Hazard switch now works like its brand new so no more MOT warnings!
