Travelpilot FX Aerial Question

Featured Replies

Folks,

I have a Mondeo Mk 4 with the above-mentioned head unit fitted and I need to replace my roof aerial and base, as the rubber has badly perished on both.

I was about to purchase a cheap replacement off eBay, when I noted that the seller stated in the details that the particular aerial wasn’t suitable for satnav units that feed through the roof-mounted aerial. This is something I hadn’t even thought about.

Having done a bit of searching on the Internet I think I am correct in stating that in my case, the roof aerial is simply for AM/FM and therefore any aerial will do!? Or, am I wrong and I need a particular aerial?

If it is the case that any aerial will do, is there a particular model I should consider? I don’t mind paying more for a quality item, as cost is not the overriding factor.

TIA

Aerial base is for Satnav. If I'm informed correctly the original antenna + base is not available anymore.

You might as well go for any FM antenna and buy a separate GPS mouse which you can mount just on the frame above the glovebox. No moisture problems anymore.

Example: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GPS-SAT-NAV-AERIAL-ANTENNA-WIRE-LEAD-FAKRA-RNS2-MFD2-MAGNETIC-FORD-VW-AUDI-SKODA-/282845322242

Do check your GPS connector on your FX unit for the correct type.

Since posting, i have done more digging and come to the same thinking as per your comments.

Turns out that  You can buy a cabling loom from Ford that rectified the problem, but just the cable will cost you £300! Obviously then, there is the cost associated with the rewiring. Clearly on a slightly older car, It is hard to justify such expense particularly when there is an option as you state that will cost you under £20. Decisions, decisions!

Thanks for your help.
