Auto gearbox jerking forward when stop start engages

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a Ford Mondeo 2015 auto 2 ltr Ecoboost with stop start tech.

It's now jerking forward after the stop /start restart s the engine after stopping at a junction for instance.

The button that overrides stop start is on the centre console and is then lit up after this happens making the stop start inoperable as if it goes to some sort of safe mode..

I've taken to a Ford dealer ,they say there is a previous falt code on the oil pump that needs to be corrected and asked me to remove my Steeda air box and replace the original  so they can work on it

The car is fine if I press the button on centre console that deactivates the start /stop  and no jerkiness appears.

The light goes off when ignition is turned off but I have to press the button so I have a smooth ride .

I did press the button a few times recently to stop it from stopping the engine just as the started up again as it's a nuisance some times and this seemed to have started the problem off.

Any ideas ?it's not the battery as it's almost new .the air box was fitted 3 months ago.

Like I say it started when  I pressed the button to stop the engine cutting out just as the stop /start kicked in to start the engine.

Does the car have a powershift dual clutch?

Bad earth connections can cause jerky shifting. The battery negative where it connects to the chassis is one area to check. A large crinkle washer will help cut into the painted chassis and improve the earth, or scrape the paint away. Do the same for other earth points nearby that feed the control units. This might fix the problem.

Yes powershift 6 speed.Ok I'll check.i still think it was something to do with me pressing the button to disable the start stop as the car restarted itself  messing up the computer somehow as the autobox supposed to  learn how you drive.I don't get why it performs ok when the start stop system is disabled..

Cheers

Possibly with the start stop disabled and the engine turning over it has a bit more power and can overcome the judder. If the earth bonding does not fix it you can try scrubbing the clutch. Find a straight road with no traffic. Stop the car and press the pedal hard to the floor to accelerate to scrub the clutch. Do it several times. Let it cool down and then drive it as normal.

Sorry, I can't help with your problem

However, if it is a Mk5 Mondeo 2 litre Ecoboost it will NOT have the Getrag Powershift Dual Clutch Transmission - It will have a normal torque converter type transmission known as the 6F Mid Range - designed in joint effort by GM and Ford USA a few years ago and now they each manufacture their own

No serving required on this transmission

Only the Mk5 Mondeo Diesels retained the Getrag Powershift DCT

Sorry. My suggested fixes are for a dry clutch.

The problem is less serious but more of a nuisance. Since pressing the disable start stop button with the engine running it has caused the problem. I've never heard of this before. Maybe disconnecting the battery negative for an hour might clear the problem stuck in the car memory.

I was just clarifying a point re "which trans" as even Clive (original OP) said on his last Tuesday post that his was a "powershift" which of course it isn't.

Kevin, re dry clutches, the Getrag Powershift in the Mondeo, and many Volvo models is a wet clutch transmission the 6DCT450

The dry clutch version is the 6DCT250, this is fitted to vehs with lower output power units like "ordinary" Fiesta, Renault, Citroen - it is this unit that gives the major problems and cost Ford megga bucks in the USA as masses numbers were purchased by americans who like autos, whereas in the uk/europe people tend to buy manual transmissions when they buy a small car

After two diagnostic tests at ford dealership. The fault was with the Auto gearbox oil pump that cuts in when the vehicle stops with the auto stop start in operation.I think it keeps oil pressure up when car stops. The pump was faulty according to diagnostic code.

You were spot on  about the gearbox being the type that does not need servicing.

So many conflicting opinions on the internet about Ford autobox as to what type it is.

Anyway car is now working as it should ,just need to make sure it's sold before another 30000 miles or so as I've done 34 000 up to now ,is that the life of this oil pump ?

I'm just £800 lighter now, I tried to get Ford customer relations involved  but to no avail lol.
