Mk4 exhaust split

Featured Replies

Hi all, posting on behalf of my Dad and his 2018 mk4 focus.

He said he was driving this week and a bang came from the exhaust then it was making an awful noise. He took it in to a local garage and they found a split in the exhaust - they said the exhausts nowadays are so thin a decent sized stone bouncing up could cause an issue.

Anyway, apparently the exhaust system only comes as a complete unit and when looking it up was just shy of £1000. Does this sound right?

He ended up getting a quick weld done elsewhere for £20 but with no guarantee of how long this will last.

Appreciate any thoughts

Yep, the weld will outlast the rest of the exhaust!

Most new cars leave the factory with a one piece exhaust, when a defective section goes, you normally buy the new piece, and  the defective piece is cut off and the new one added.
