Keyless entry not working on passenger side mk4

Featured Replies

I picked up my new (to me) mk4 Focus last week which has keyless entry. When I picked it up the keyless entry worked on both driver amd passenger side, however, since then the passenger side has stopped working and i can only lock and unlock the drivers side and boot with keyless. Passenger side still works with the fob.

I know there's a setting in the menus for keyless entry on driver side only or all doors, but this doesn't seem to make a difference. Any thoughts?

When your battery is low on charge that is one of the things that gets dropped until the charge level is increased, which could take quite a bit of driving because of the smart charging system on these cars.

Ive noticed this too. I picked up mine last Saturday and noticed that even though all 4 doors are keyless entry and touch to lock, only the driver door and boot seem to work.

I had a rear passenger door work once by chance and since has not worked again. Auto stop start ive barley had come on either and it says 'due to battery charging' if you look in the menu while the cars running (although I have it in sport most of the time where it doesn't come on anyway so I might just not have noticed while in normal mode)...

so @Tizer could be right in saying the battery needs to charge...im not sure how much driving its going to take mind!

And contrary to popular belief driving at Motorway speeds does not make it charge faster than driving around town, its the amount of time that the engine is running.

Interesting, that could well explain it then. I think the car was sat at the dealer for a few months before I bought it, and I've had the ignition on a fair bit adjusting settings etc. Thinking about it I can't recall auto start stop coming on since I got the car either.

Hopefully with a bit of driving it'll come back!

I thought keyless only worked on the front doors and the boot? I've certainly not had it work on the rear doors at all.

My thoughts exactly with mine aswell, the previous tax expired on August 21st whic and I picked it up September 19th so im guessing it had not been started much if at all for a month.

Have a look in the settings though on the dash, can't remember off the top of my head which, but its probably something like vehicle settings and driver aids or something, and then auto start/stop - it then gives a reason why its not on if it should be

Yep definitely worked for me once, have you not got the 3 little lines on the rear door handle that you touch to lock?

Keyless entry on rear doors were dropped from a May 2019 build date.

Definitely low battery charge.  Now it doesn't take much driving to get the keyless on all doors to work again, unlike stop start. As John say bombing up the motorway won't really help. My s/s hasn't worked for months no matter what driving I did, but  installing the sync3 update with the engine running and car sat in the drive and surprise surprise it all okey dokey now 😂

I have now the same on my Kuga mk2.
Still need to go to the garage to fix it

Ah, that explains it, mines an August 2019 model.

And, as predicted, after driving to work this morning, both doors are working with keyless again! Battery charge seems to be the most logical answer, as suggested.

Thanks Everyone!

After reading all of your posts, I switched off start/stop during my ride home of about 30min. Just to see if the keyless entry would work again. And to my surprise it worked again when I got home.
So I can only agree that the battery power is influencing the keyless entry, and the start/ stop system is draining the system in such a way that it gives problems with the keyless entry, I don't think it would drain the battery but enough to give issues.

Focus seems to have a real issue with it's BMS functions in Mk4 Focus. It affects the Nordic countries most IMO, since during the winter, ppl are (including me) reporting issues with fuel aux heaters not working (with me even in mid-august) on a cold morning, and battery SOC dropping even to 40-55% even if the car is run regularly. Ford is not always replacing the BMS sensor/module at the moment, since it would only help for a while, maybe from days to months. They're searching and waiting for a full fix.
