Mondeo Automatic/Powershift - opinions?

Featured Replies

Hi all

I currently have a 2008 Titanium 1.8 TDCi manual, drives really well and is pretty quick for a big family car, but I am considering a 2013/14 Mondeo Titanium X sport and fancy an automatic. Some are advertised as "Powershift" (think these are the 2.0 TDCi) and others not say this, so assume normal auto (2.2. TDci)? Does anyone own/has owned either and can give opinions both good and bad please? Especially in terms of the acceleration/power compared to the manual versions, or any issues?

Thanks

Hi Steve, only have time for a quick response at this minute

The 2.2 diesel has a normal type converter auto transmission made by Aisin Warner, a 6 speed transmission. (no servicing required)

All other autos for the 2010/2011 onwards Mk4.5 Mondeo's have the "Powershift" auto trans, it is manufactured by German manufacturer called Getrag, the model in the Mondeo (and many Volvo's) is the 6 speed  6DCT450 wet clutch transmission, which MUST have a transmission oil and filter service every 37,500 miles or 3 years, whichever occurs first. Do not buy one unless there is invoice proof of this being done

The Getrag transmission that had/has major problems is the dry clutch 6DCT250 fitted to lower powered Fords, Renault and Citroen, so do not get the bad press about this model confused with the other one
