Ford Mondeo MK4.5 2015 Knocking from Rear

Hello

The noise is getting worse and has been joined by a noise at low speeds like a noisy spring.  I climbed under car and have noticed 2 things, one of the drop links I can shake at the bottom with my hands, like a couple of mil play, so I am going to replace both drop links, just trying to find a good quality part.  Also more troubling is the rear lower control arm is rusting through near the spring, I can actually see holes around edges.  Strange no garage has noticed such, I thought that would come under a structure issue ?.  So I am now guessing I am looking at 2 new lower control arms and a couple of drop links before I even figure out what is causing the noise like a noisy spring.

I am guessing ford original control arms and links would be very expensive.  A local mobile machanic is saying he can replace both control arms and drop links for £60, which is 2 hrs labour.  Anyone recommend known quality replacement parts please.  Looking on eBay but I notice original drop links are black where most replacements are silver, would prefer to keep black and have at least 2 years guarantee on the parts, thank you

Hi just jumped on this topic new hear.

I have the same problem my mk4 went into ford and they changed the trailing arm bushes and tear springs that were snapped and I've also lost a bracket on my exhaust which has been repaired but still keep getting a knocking sound even when I'm driving on a flat surface. But I can empty the boot stand in the car and can't repeat the knocking I am getting annoyed 😒

Let me know if you get anywhere, so far I replaced shocks and rear lower wishbones with a receipt showing trailing arms were done by ford about a year ago and they look OK.  Still I get random very heavy knock sounds when going over small potholes etc but not always.

Check the caliper spring is located correctly I've just had this issue on a Mondeo vignale the passenger side break caliper spring wasn't located correctly it was making a sound like a rattley drop link when both wheels hit a bump if aiming for a pot hole with a single wheel there was no noise. The spring goes across the front of the caliper and can be seen with alloy wheel on. Considering the misses took the car to kwick fit and they didn't find the fault a bit mental considering breaks are their bread and butter.

Hello

Found issue. The trailing arm bolt is lose and has been cross threaded so cannot be tightened or loosend.  Garage refusing to trying undoing etc as said it will snap and as the bolt directly goes into frame of car and not a part, when it does snap, they would have no idea how to ever repair.

They said it was likely done by the person. Who replaced the shock as you normally take bolt out, to allow movement to get rear shock off or something ?.

Sounds like I am in trouble.

I climbed under car, the bolt holds the trailing arm to the rear nuckle of the car.  Theirs about a 2 mil gap where the washer has been compressed and is now is causing a gap between bolt and washer.  If I try to undo it and the bolt snaps, I am guessing a pro would have to try and drill the old bolt out.  I doubt very much anyone touched it to replace shock as no need to at all.  Only time anyone would touch is to replace the trailing arm bush, which was done by ford a couple of years back, before i bought the car, so no chance of going back to them to fix.

Guess I will see if my local tyre fitters can try a torque wrench on it as easy to get to and if they snap, try to find someone to drill old bolt out.
