Engine noise

Featured Replies

I have a 2007 Ford Focus zetec s 1.8tdci

when driving between 1-2k revs there is a slight ticking/rattling noise this only occurs when foot is on the peddle, when foot is off the peddle there is no noise and when engine is above 2k revs the noise goes.

I am new to having Diesel engines is this completely normal or not? I am aware the aux belt needs replacing soon as it’s cracked etc the car is topped up on oil and coolant and there is no unwanted leaks

Probably just injector noise. Get the belt done ASAP

I would also look at the engine mounts. Do this with the engine cold, try to rock the engine at each end and in the middle, if moves a bit than your engine mounts need replacement. These days not so expensive.

The 1.8 TDCi is a workhorse of an engine but it is about as refined as a diesel tractor for the 1980s!  Which ironically is when the guts of the engine are from, like all engines is does have its weaknesses but if yours is a 2007 then you'll have missed the not so lovely things Ford did to screw up the last 2 years of builds for this engine.
