2007 Focus MK2 Engine Code P2008

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Wondering if someone can help please. I am currently on holiday many many miles from home and noticed after we arrived that my 2007 Focus had the engine fault light on. Don't have anything with me and every garage around here is closed today but I managed to buy a OBD2 reader this afternoon. Put it in and it came up with code P2008 which seems to be something to do with the intake manifold runner control circuit.

Looks like many people have posted on here about the error and possibly need to replace a part. However I don't have anything with me and would rather not tackle while on holiday.

My first question is do I need to get it fixed straight away? I did notice a slight (and I mean slight) reduction in power but nothing much and that was after a 4 hour drive in stop start traffic in the high heat. The error light cleared after I used the OBD2 reader and has not come on again (after two journeys of about 20 minutes) and I have not noticed anything wrong today. If it's not serious and just fuel efficiency I would rather order the parts and fix myself when I get home. Where we are on holiday we really need the car and leaving it in a garage for the day would not be ideal as it would require a fix Taxi journeys with a small child.

Secondly what parts do I need? There are posts on here but they are old and links are not working. Would like to get something from Amazon UK or Euro Car Parts if possible.

Finally if I do have to take it to a garage here does anyone have an idea of what cost is likely to be (I know it might be impossible to say). Don't mind spending a few hundred but really don't want to waste a load on it.

This is the first time in 8 years there has been anything wrong with the focus. I get it serviced every year and normally it runs like a dream. Just gone past the 100,000 miles so should have some miles left in it yet 🙂

Thanks in advance for the help.

Gary

Hi Gary, don't let it spoil your holiday.

Causes of the P2008 code:-

Wiring harness that has an open or short - Intake manifold runner solenoid is faulty - Electrical connection is poor - Intake manifold runner bank 1 failure.

Fault:- The intake manifold flaps are not being adjusted.

Its not a super urgent fault, it will need fixed but it should not effect the engine too much, it may idle a bit erratic - I would think you would be ok to finish your holiday and then get it seen too. Cost is how long is a bit of string ? My best guess would be less than £200

Thanks very much for the very speedy reply unofix, I will not worry too much then and just keen an eye over the next few days.

Also found this video Focus P2008 MiracleMax which goes through a few things to check so I will give it a go when I get back home. With the extended heat yesterday I would not be surprised if it is the solenoid he mentions at the end. I think I can get this ZEALfix one from Amazon for £14 so might get it ordered for when I get back home.

Thanks again for the quick reply, really appreciated.

Very useful video 👍

I fitted one of those brand ones to my wife's Focus last year and it's still going strong, despite being dirt cheap.
