Rust on wing

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

Have u guys ever sorted out rust on a car I have focus MK2 and have some rust on front wing I guess where the water splashes up over the years.

How did u guys do it, a repair, or get a cheap breaker's wing, or new wing fitted and sprayed.

Thanks

I got a cheap new 'pattern' wing professionally sprayed & fitted...

Have got the start of a few minor paint blisters on both rear arches (where they meet rear bumper), am hoping to get them sorted soon before they really get hold.

Thanks.

I looked into that before and was about 45 pound for pattern wing and 125 for fit and spray.  Breakers wing is about 50-60 but alot of them have some rust or paint damage.

Mines gone on lowest left of front wing where see yours on right near headlight.

Now, you must have a very posh paint shop - mine charged me £70 (cash) and did a great job. But as anyone on here will tell you, I'm 'cheap' LOL

Is that for a spray and a fit the wing.

He said u buy the wing there about 45 pattern part and he wanted charge 125 to spray the wing and fit the wing. For that 70 quid you payed was that spray and fitted.

I thought 125 that's about hour to fit it and spray it.

The cost depends on whether you have the panel blended, or just painted and left to cure so you might be able to see a slight change in colour from panel to panel.

I'd say more than an hours work by the time you've prepped, primed, sprayed, lacquered, left to dry and fitted it. Plus if you're having it cut and buffed then it will take a day or two of curing.

The wing cost me £50 off Ebay, I have been using the same paint shop for over 20 years, so not 'mates rates', but he's a decent guy... It's a 16 year old bog standard family car, so for me, not worth spending big money on...

Plus, removing the old wings is (speaking from person experience) a bit of a pain in the ***** because all the plastic fixing will have gone brittle and often just spin uselessly before snapping when more persuasive methods are used.  (Purchasing replacement fixings in advance is a smart idea....once that I did NOT think of at the time!)

This thread includes a rather useful image that shows where all the fasteners are and was all I needed to be able to replace both front wings using basic hand tools.
