Battery Drain 2019 Focus

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Apologies if there is a cross-post elsewhere.  I've not been unable to find anything.

I was wondering if anybody was aware of any known issues with the Focus' computer drawing on the battery whilst parked without engine running.  I have broken down on numerous occasions due to flat battery, when the car is in regular use.  On one instance, I had just completed a 300 mile trip without switching off the engine, having been jump started prior to setting off.  One would think this would be sufficient to recharge the battery fully but only hours after arriving, my vehicle wouldn't start

An AA patrol man mentioned that there is a known issue with the Bluetooth draining the battery but I can't find any articles online to substantiate this.

My local Ford dealership has had several attempts to fix this and keeps telling me there is no issue.

Any advice/articles/guidance would be gratefully received.

Thank you all in advance

There will be threads on here from 2 years ago about battery drain issues. I find it difficult to search this forum, someone else will point you in the right direction hopefully. Lot of theories from the app to dash cam to modem. I can’t remember what the consensus was/Is . I don’t see how Bluetooth could be draining it 🤔.

“No issue” when there’s clearly an issue!

Even if there's a common fault, you can't just guess that's your problem and hope that replacing it fixes your issue.

You need to do a parasitic draw test using a multimeter set to amps between the negative terminal and the negative lead.

Tbf, the Ford dealer should be doing the parasitic draw test. Have they said they've done this?

Hi all, thanks for the replies.

Alex S- I'm not very technically savvy but the way it was explained was it was like keeping a laptop in standby i.e. low power mode.  I'm not sure.  Will definitely re-trawl the forums.

Luke/AlexP- thanks for your advice.  AlexP- the dealer email says "Battery test carried out the GR590 battery test note come back battery test passed."  But last 2 breakdowns, the AA was getting an 'unstable voltage' reading on their testing gear.  My dealer has tried to repair this on 3 separate occasions to fix issues with keyless entry, power tailgate and hill-start assist, all of which have more frequently failed to operate due to the battery issues.

Will specifically request the parasitic draw test.
