Injector no4 requiring rocker cover removal?

Featured Replies

Hi all.

So today I have attempted to swap out injector no4 on the missus 08 1.8 tdci focus. I’ve swapped injectors 1 and 2 out in the past with no problems however when I have tried remove no4 the rocker cover hose inlet is directly above it making it seem impossible to remove without first removing the rocker cover. Does anyone with experience in removing injector 4 know if this has to be done or am I missing something? I know removing the rocker cover isn’t majorly difficult but it’s a step I’d like to avoid if I can.

Many thanks all

Do you have a Haynes manual? They mention nothing about removing the cover in the manual, but in one of the illustrations, it looks like they do have the cover removed to expose the cams. Doubt I'm allowed to share an image of copyrighted material here. Do you have a picture of the problem? Maybe the 1.8 guys can chime in, I'm only in a 1.6 myself.

Yeah I’ve got a haynes manual and like you say it says nothing about removing the rocker cover. I’ve tried rotating the injector but it won’t pass the inlet. Hard to tell from that picture as it looks like it will but trust me it doesn’t.

Unfortunately, I'd say you probably have no choice. Even if you could forcibly squeeze/bend it out, you're not gonna get a new injector in without damaging it. I know the Haynes manual often takes unnecessary steps, but in this case, it looks like they didn't mention something you actually might need to do, especially considering they have it removed in their image (Section 4A-12, image 10.22b in my book). Good luck mate :)
