Is my 2008 Focus classed as a MK1 as listed on the Gov. MOT site or MK2 as other sites say?

Can anyone please clarify something for me.  Every site I searched says my 2008 Focus is a Mark 2 yet on the government MOT check site it lists it as a MK1.  I need to make sure what 'Mark' it is since I need to purchase the correct key case from eBay with the correct transponder, either a 4D60 for Mark 1 or a 4D63 for Mark 2 as I've read elsewhere on this site.  Any ideas please anyone? Thanks.

It should be a mk2 as it is right in the middle of the mk2 years.

If it was on a boundary year it could be either, my 2005 focus was a mk1.5, my 2011 was a mk3 and my 2018 is a mk3.5.

A picture would confirm it or you can identify it yourself from the website here.

Where does it say this? The DVLA/ government check sites don't really use the mk system. They just use make, models and year of the vehicle.

A 58 plate will be mk2.5 (mk2 facelift).

If you are looking at the bit that says "Vehicle Type Approval: M1" then this just means that it is a vehicle designed and constructed for the carriage of passengers and comprising no more than eight seats in addition to the driver’s seat, and having a maximum mass not exceeding 3.5 tons. It doesn't mean that its a Mk1.

Well, my 2005 LX is 100% Mk2, so your more recent one is definitely NOT a Mk1 LOL

Thanks a lot, this has confirmed my suspicion that my car is actually a Mark 2.

Believe it or not, a mechanic told me that the 'M1' means 'Mark 1'.  Many thanks for your help in clearing it up for me.

I had to buy a transponder for a 2008 focus and it was 4d63. And I got it working properly.

LOL Yes that would be a bit weird.  I mean I was convinced that it was a Mark 2 since all the sites I visited said it was but I'm glad it's cleared up now.  Many thanks for your advice.

Yes I read elsewhere on this site that I needed a 4D63 for a 2008 Focus but a mechanic told me the 'M1' on the government MOT site meant it was a Mark 1 which made me pause but now it's been cleared up I can go ahead and purchase the right key fob as I've only got one key at the moment although I think I still need to purchase a usb connector to use with the Forscan software.

Thanks for your help.

I only had one key . I bought a key blade on eBay cut from a photo of my key, that was fine. Separately bought key fob with the 4d63 transponder. Used a tunnelrat obd code reader thing with forscan on a windows laptop. Managed to do the key programming fine. I was a bit nervous that it would all go wrong and I’d end up with no working key. Did this about two years ago , only done once, can’t remember exactly how, I must have followed some instructions on the internet.
