Headlight Upgrade Advice MK2.5

Featured Replies

So my 2010 mk2.5 Ford Focus has the standard headlights.

I am looking to upgrade the headlights or do some kind of conversion.

I like the idea of projector lenses and having some sort or DRL / welcome lights

I am a bit confused about all the different terms.

I know DRL (Daytime Running Lights) are on all the time for example

Does xenon just refer to the types of bulbs? I know technically you are suppose to have headlight washers installed for xenons?

I would also like the headlights to have sequential indicators if possible, I have seen a few pictures with them on.

What do you guys recommend / have on your cars etc?

I've explained this a few times recently so have a search on the forum for something more detailed

Xenons are brighter than regular halogen lamps. You can't fit them into regular reflector type headlights as you'll just blind everyone coming the other way. You have to fit projector headlights which have the sharp cut off so it limits the height of the beam pattern.

You also have to fit the self-levelling mechanism and headlight washers in order to pass an MOT.

There's companies online that make custom headlights for the mk2. Theyll make them exactly how you want them (sequential indicators, DRL's, xenons etc.) I've seen quite a few ST owners with them. Problem is they're mega expensive, you won't get any change from £1000.

Custom headlights are roughly £600 a pair, some decent xenons are over £100 a pair. By the time you've bought ballasts, wiring plugs to adapt your current ones, headlight washers, a new front bumper to accommodate the washers etc. you're easily over that amount.
