Multiple electrical errors mk4 focus 2018

Featured Replies

Hi all,

So I have a mk4 focus 2018. Know and again I will get error messages on the drivers computer saying there's an error with auto Hill assist, auto start stop not available and ESC service required.

I recently purchased this from a dealer who state they've updated the car software on one occasion and then just yesterday update the abs system.

To me, those issues they say they fixed seem unrelated to my issues. Has anyone had similar problems and have any insight into what is causing my issues?

what specific error messages are you seeing?

is it warnings about operator error?  or fault lights illuminated on the instrument cluster that don't go away

unless you have dealer specific diagnostic tools its unlikely these are fault codes - but rather references to driver behaviours that don't meet their quite interesting logic

[for clarity on terminology: hand brake / park brake / electronic park brake, are the same thing - a safety device to stop the car moving unintentionally when stationary / parked].  There are LOTS of posts about hill hold and park brake behaviour - LOTS of owners believe they have an automatic park brake when they don't ! Its just in quite a few situations Ford anticipated poor driving and applied some logic for emergency application.... but its not definitive and so the assumption its automatic can bring situations where its not applied (often confusing the driver making them believe there's a fault)

the owners handbook will state the exact way to drive the car correctly.....  if you can regularly / repeatedly get error messages or wrong behaviour from the car whilst following to the letter, the full instructions in the owners handbook - then you have a fault they need to fix...  otherwise adopt the way stated in the handbook.... which will be a million times more complex than a real car with a real handbrake

I have shared a couple pictures with the faults that I took a photo of except the Esc service required error.

Thanks for the replies!

Hi Mark, welcome to the Ford Owners Club.

I've seen these warnings before (as have many on this forum). I know that this will probably sound odd but trust me it works in many cases, simply put your car battery on charge for 24 hours with a decent battery charger. You can safely charge the battery in the car no need to remove it or disconnect it just make sure that the positive of the charger is directly connected to the battery positve terminal and that the negative is connected to the body earth point, NOT the negative of the battery.

I think you will find after a good battery charge the problems will go away. If in a few weeks they then come back you will have to think about replacing the battery.

Absolutely.

If software has been updated then ensure battery is at full charge
