Cossydave
Just had my Focus TDci serviced, when I got home (less then a mile) I checked the oil and it was nearly black, anyone know if that's right, I know that diesels oil turns black faster then petrol but surely not that quick, I don't want to go back ranting if I am wrong. anyone had the same experience ? ?. isetta
On my 1.5tdci and previous 1.6tdci the oil looks black after being changed. One of the ‘problems’ is that the drain plug position means not all of the old black oil comes out. oil changes done by me with filter change at same time. iantt
Normal, not all the the oil can drain out . Only takes a small amount to discolour new oil.

The car had only done 12 miles and the oil was black. We complained and they assured us that a proper full oil change had been done. We paid an independant oil analysis company to test the oil. The result was the oil was contaminated, they could not say for sure but given the poor quality of the oil the conclusion was that only part of the oil had been changed. Probably because the Ford dealership like to just suck some of the oil out of the 'dip stick' hole ! We got no satisfaction from the garage, and I ended up buying the correct Castrol Magnatec oil from a diffrent Ford dealer and doing a oil and filter change myself. The oil that came out was so black I can not believe it had been changed. Now after 800 miles the oil that I put in the engine is still clean looking - so, its the old saying if you want a job done right, do it yourself. MasterTechTip
When changing the oil and filter on cars there is no way of getting all of the old oil out so when new oil is put in and it circulates round with the left over old oil it stains all of the new oil and turns it black. The only way to improve this is to do 2 or more oil changes to really clear the old oil out
