Bob28809
So i had my 69plate focus 1.5(150) mapped today. I didn’t go with one of the usual companies but went for a well recommended local company who has a very good set up, 5* google reviews and is local to incase of any pronlems. he did a ‘proper’ tune and didn’t just stick the obd in, download and away they go. Took about 2 hours on the dyno with 20minute pauses in between each run while he tuned the car. I got really good gains of 47.5hp and 80nm. 😃The car is totally transformed when im driving. It feels totally different but my main concern was obviously my warranty which i have just over a year left as the car was bought in jan2020. This guy was soooo knowledgeable and answered every question. Now i already knew that vw have a thing where the dealerships can tell if your car has been mapped but what I didn’t know and have not been able to find anything on it, is that ford dealers go off your key turns, if they have warranty issues. I thought this would be well known but literally couldn’t find anything about it. He said he has a good relationship with alot of the car dealers and was absolutely positive that they definitely do it at ford. My question is has anybody heard of this and does anybody know a way of getting my key turns back ( even though its keyless start) and no I don’t want to sit for 2 days starting and stopping. Maybe through forscan or something.

I haven't any idea what you mean !!! Please explain what you mean by key turns ? do you mean how many times the car has been started ? Wino
The way I'm interpreting the key turns is that now the OP has had his car remapped it has resulted in the history of the car being started since it was built as "0" So will only have the key turns recorded since the remap which will be very few 🤔
Bob28809
He literally meant how many times the car has been started or ignition on/off. I don’t know weather it means it gets reset when u get a service etc or if it is the life of the car. I just know he was certain of it and was positive having the car mapped would ‘reset’ it, also that is how they know if the ecu has been flashed or tampered with. VW has something similar where they can tell if anything has been changed. He did say a dealer had told him this and to be honest I don’t think he would want to make up reasons not to have a map. I was very surprised I couldn’t find anything on this anywhere but maybe it is only on newer vehicles??
Wino
Out of curiosity did you have a "Bench remap" where they remove the ECU from the vehicle or was it done via the OBD port ?
Bob28809
no it was an obd remap but he did the map on laptop while plugged into the car. He said all maps will reset the count nomatter who does it.
Wino
I had my previous MK3 1.6Tdci remapped and like you said earlier, it totally transformed the car. I've enquired about having the Mk4 1.5 diesel remapped with two local companies that do it. The first company was the same place I had the Mk3 done a few yrs ago but they both came back with the same answer that it can't be done on my model via the OBD port so would have to remove the ECU from the vehicle and open it up directly hence the name " Bench remap" which isnt something either of them was prepared or capable of doing. It was also something I wasnt happy with due to the extra risk of something going wrong.
Bob28809
If he would of wanted to take the ecu out of the car I definitely would of waited till the warranty was finished and still would of had to think about it!! Im very surprised there isnt an obd map for your car.
