Replacing clutch in mk2 focus, how to prepare?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

Ive had a petrol 2007 1.4l Focus mk2 hatchback for the past 6 months now and my clutch started slipping to the point where I can no longer drive the car.

I’ve ordered a LuK 3 piece clutch kit (622322634), and I’m going to try my hand at replacing it myself as I’m completely skint and would like to learn something new.

my question is, is there anything I should be aware of beforehand that I might miss? From what I can see all I’ve to do is stick it up on stands, remove both driveshafts, drain the gearbox oil, disconnect the gear linkages, support the gearbox with a jack, get the bolts off and drop it out.

Any input is helpful, cheers

Haven’t done that kind of work since doing it on an escort about 12 years ago. Will you have to support engine once gearbox unbolted as won’t the engine only be hanging on one mount up by timing belt area? I think maybe I wedged a wheel ramp and blocks of wood under sump

does the kit come with a centering bar to make sure its in the right place, depending on size a piece of broom handle of something of the ilk should suffice

Yeah I had to throw a big jack under the sump with a block of wood and lower down the engine to get the gearbox off. The weight of the gearbox was surprising, I nearly didn’t get it back on the car 😂

I Managed to eyeball the alignment, just looked dead straight down the clutch/flywheel/pressure plate and hoped for the best
