Help please, gearbox is stuck and won't come away from engine properly??

Featured Replies

Can anyone help? I am trying to change the clutch on my car and I have taken all the bolts out around the bell housing, drive shafts out, gearbox mounts off etc.. but it just will not come free properly. The gearbox has come away partially from the engine but it's as if there is still a bolt in when there isn't. Can anyone help me with this?

Sounds like it is jammed on the input shaft. Check the bellhousing is free from the crank case all around, using a thin item like a feeler gauge. Note there will usually be a couple of alignment dowels in there, it could stick on those also.

The box must stay is near perfect alignment with the engine to pull away, any side force or tipping will jam the input shaft into the clutch & flywheel bearing. If the alignment is good, but still seems to be jammed, possibly due to corroded or dirty splines between input shaft & clutch, try at least 3 wooden or plastic wedges or similar, to apply force equally on all sides.
