Strange wiring in fuse box (new to me) used 2016 focus

Featured Replies

So I recently got a 2016 titanium Focus and I was having a poke around to fit a dash cam, however I don’t remember seeing this wiring in my fuse box on my previous focus (a 2015) it seems to be located in the central locking fuse. I habe tried to track the wiring and it just goes under the carpet. Any help would be great,

It must be the previous owner, it's certainly not been done by Ford or aftermarket at a garage. Do you have aftermarket sensors or a 12v socket somewhere you wouldn't expect?

Nothing at all that I can see. The car came with standard sensors from the factory as part of the titanium spec. Nothing on it that shouldn’t be from what I can see.

It seems to have a similar loom look to the Ford ones wrapped in a black ish tape, and goes down the under the passenger door under the carpet

Disconnected it, and put the original fuse back; and it’s all working as normal. The mystery deepens as to what it is for. It’s been professionally installed under the carpets going towards the rear of the car

The way the yellow and black wires are twisted together makes me think that's a can bus wiring . Has it got a tow bar or did have a towbar with wiring tucked away?

Not that I am aware of. There isn’t any evidence of it at the rear.  The other strange thing was I have only had the car a month, but had it sitting for a week or so after I had got it. When I started it after that time, the car struggled so I suspected a weak battery. Now I’m thinking there is/was something causing a power drain. I’ll find out over the next few weeks if that has accidentally sorted that issue, and there is something else buried in the car.

Hard to see for sure in your pic, but that looks like some kind of piggyback connector. It's possible it was for an aftermarket accessory that the previous owner kept, and just left the wiring, e.g., a phone kit or parking/dashcam.

I've install similar on many vehicles with the same black and yellow wires. My guess the car had or still has a GPS tracker fitted, they are so cheap now that it costs more to de-install them than it does to to leave them and just deactivate them.

This is what I suspect. Where would these usually be placed as it seems to go down behind the passenger chair towards the rear of the car. It looks professionally installed what ever it what as it seems to also go under the trim at the bottom of the passenger door.

No two installers tend to put them in the same place (for security reasons) and so if it is a GPS tracker it will be hidden. Try looking in behind the rear quarter panel, high up near to the window.

This is what I am convinced it is. Given the battery drain that I was experiencing. It was similar to when I has my dash camera on constantly before I had it auto shut off after a few hours. I’m determined to hunt it down!
