Oil temperature Focus 3.5

Featured Replies

Hello,

I would like to ask you guys, if there is some possibility of installing oil temperature gauge and if so, how to do it please?
I tried with cheap ELM327 obd2 unit and Torque app on my phone, but it shows nothing. Like there is no sensor for oil temperature.

Thank you.

This is correct. Even on the mk3 ST & RS, the oil temperature and pressure readings are just calculated estimates using the coolant temperature and I believe the maf sensor.

Well thats a shame.. Gauge like this should be an obligation for turbocharged engines, in my opinion.
Anyway, thank you very much. 😊

See I disagree. Poor old Betty Crocker isn't going to have a clue or care about what her oil temperature or pressure is. Then we'd get 1000 posts on here every week from pedantic owners wondering why the needle has moved ever so slightly compared to where it was yesterday.

In a modified performance car, yes it's important, but not on a bog standard road car. Like I say, Ford have used calculated gauges for over 15 years on the ST and RS and nobody has moaned too much. It can't be that important to have real ones. Plus I'm pretty sure you'll know if the oil pressure has dropped fairly quickly even without a gauge lol.

In my old GT4, I installed a 'sandwich plate' between the block and the oil filter, this had feeds for both oil pressure & temperature. I'm sure such a thing must exist for a 'Ford'!

Well its true about those pedants. I know at least one person who would complain about something everyday even if its absolutely fine. 😁

But I meant it because turbo is "sensible" part for oil temperature or its consistency (sorry for bad english).

This is the TYPE of thing I was talking about - have no idea about the size you'll need, you will have to do your own research!

Yes, I was considering this in my old 1,8tdci. I might do this to the new one later. Thanks!! ☺️
