Power assist steering prob

Featured Replies

I have reposted this as I have more input car focus 1.6 tdci 2010  I had a Warning  on the dash power steering malfunction and the PAS died restarted the car and the fault had gone,  that was 2 weeks ago...however I now have a strong smell off electrical burning after a trip long or short. After investigating I have found I have a fluid reservoir  under the O/S  The reservoir is mounted directly on top off the motor / pump assy  which the drives the rack via hydraulic hoses...I am to repair this myself access is very easy and removal looks quite simple removal off the inner wheel arch cover bottom engine tray and headlight exposes the unit which is held on by 3 bolts and 2 hoses..I can get the unit reconed for 380 quid  cheaper than the 1200 quoted by ford..if anyone could shed any more light on diagnosing the fault  thanks
