Ford Zetec 2005 instrument panel click noise - All lights and many warnings appear on dashboard

Featured Replies

Hello all!

I'm having a strange issue with my car that can be best described as completely bizarre!

When starting the car from cold, I seem to be getting a click sound from the dashboard, all the lights appear on the dashboard and I'm getting a transmission warning and engine malfuncition warning. Another click will happen and is all well? The time between the clicks appear to be different with no patten between it all. If I turn off the car and turn it back on, I'll either get it working ok or encounter the same problem.

All of the lights are illumitated when the engine is running and it's in its freak mode as I've called this event but the LCD screen in the middle that has the gear details (it's a automattic) starts flickers on and off again (see attached).

Stranger still is the fact that my cars clock (time) has reset back to the year 2007 but I'm not really sure when this happened.

The fun part is that we've just ran it about for 20 minutes after it cleared got working (stopping the engine and restarting until it cleared) and it appeared fine but the engine warning light was on (it has gone into limp mode before with this issue and has done that since when sat in the drive way but these have been cold start, drive off). I've left it for an hour and started it up and had the same issues again. It seems fine when running about.

I've done a code reading and got a fault code of a U1000 code and had a tech out and he gave us the attached receipt.

Is this time for a new car or is it something I can fix on the cheap?

Danny, when you are typing a post, to upload a photo, simply look at the paperclip symbol underneath, then click on 'choose file'. Make sure the cursor is flashing where you want the photo inserted in your text, then click on the thumbnail. (Some of us don't have the patience to accept yet more cookies, and disable their ad blocker! LOL)

Noted and thank you for the tip!

I think I've worked it out - The Cluster is dying. I figured this out with hours of research and a quick bash to the top of the unit (it jolted back to life). I understand the solder in the clusters used to be lead based, now they're not. Going to get the board reflowed and take it from there!
