id like to replace my climate control module as the buttons have worn in my mk 2.5

 

is the mk 3 same fitment ? anyone know ?

The MK3 Climate Control panel will never work on a MK2/MK2.5. These are electronically completely different.

Yep, if you want a replacement plug in unit you need one with the same 4 digits at the start of the part number shown on label an back of the unit. 

Or, if you search for units off Kuga, C-max etc if you get one with the same physical mounts on the housing externally regardless of model it’s come off it’s a simple job to release the 6 clips holding the casing together and then swap the circuit board inside your unit to one with decent buttons. 
 

I worked this out when updating the silver unit off my mk2.5 ST for a black one off a mk2 C-max. Note on eBay some models show the unit as part of a larger panel with heated screen buttons etc so check photos showing the rear of the panel, the climate panel still has the screw mounts on the top corners it just clips out of the extra fascia panel. Focus mk3 seems to have different markings on one of the round buttons within the temp control dials (max temp instead of Auto/mono so just look out for that if you want everything as a perfect match)
