Focus Mk2.5 - disable alarm? (remote keyless entry system)

Featured Replies

Morning all,

Second post this morning - car alarm seems to be randomly going off at night.  I live in a quiet area and we have plenty of wildlife, foxes etc that visit gardens nightly.  This plus moving bushes/trees around the car I think is tripping alarm sensors.  That said I have read about bonnet catches playing up etc.  I am going to try and find out what is tripping it just diagnostic but trying to find out easiest way to disable the alarm permanently until I get a chance to fix.  Car sits outside our bedroom window and not enjoying loss of sleep.

So is there a fuse that can be pulled or something changed to disable the alarm completely so I can still open and use the car with the remote keyless proximity fob?

I am also looking at a way of removing the proximity keyless system (downgrading it to normal fob/key per another post).

Thanks for any advice,

Russ

No, otherwise a burglar would just smash the window, pull the fuse for the alarm and drive off 😂😂.

Foxes and bushes outside won't be tripping the alarm.  You can disable the interior sensors easily in case you've got a moth trapped in there.

You can also bridge out the bonnet switch if that's at fault.  Though that's not ideal long term, I've seen a few smashed screens from bonnets flying up at speed over the years.

Thanks for the help already.  I hoped that the immobiliser ran independently of the alarm itself so you could technically disable the alarm but would not be able to be stolen as would still need the immobiliser signal or key with chip next to ignition.

Was hoping that it was not a fault (foxes/bushes was probably a long shot) so guess I'll need to investigate further on this but turning off the sensors seems sensible.  Is this achieved by the interior sensor button to press each time or is there a way to shut this off by another means permanently for now?

Thanks re the bonnet switch, I will see if I can find out which sensor caused the alarm to go off - hopefully can do that in Forscan.  Good point, don't want risk of not knowing bonnet open and having this happen.  That would scare the crap out of me.

If anyone has any other methods of bypass or at least stopping the alarm sounding until I have time to sort it out properly that would help.  Would rather not leave the thing unlocked even though not much ever left in it.

Okay partially good news, think I worked this one out myself from a bit of messing around today.

Whilst I didn't find a way to completely disable the alarm I did manage to disable the alarm sensors and audible alarm.

Also a handy setting is available to disarm alarm by using a key in the door lock.

I proceeded to test this afterwards by rearming the alarm and firstly opening the bonnet with key whilst still locked. No alarm. Also unlocking door with key. No alarm. Finally then leaving window open and locking, rearming and waving hands inside. No alarm. Whoop!

I've also found a way to disable remote keyless entry which I'll update in my other post. So car just locks and unlocks with fob or key but also starts keyless with button push.

This was all possible via ELMconfig software. Great work those guys.

For anyone needing to do this check the software I mentioned and look at GEM and KVM modules. Various things can be tweaked in there.

Hope this helps anyone else in my situation. Hopefully I can get a peaceful night now and fix the problem (which seems to be triggered by drivers door ajar alarm message according to ELMconfig, even tells you that)! Brill.

Don't expect any sympathy from your insurance company if your car vanishes or its contents are stolen.

Its a good point, I don't recommend people do this as a permanent fix, perhaps to get them by for a few days until they fix the underlying issues. I intend to look at my door sensor as that seems to be the trigger. Once fixed I can pop the settings back. For now the car is garaged but handy to know alarm should not be going off whilst being repaired.
