Focus 2006 1.8 flexifuel Rear Wheel Bearing – Different sizes? Lose fit…

Featured Replies

Hello,
The other day I bought new rear wheel bearings for my 2006(2005/08) Focus, with OEM 3M512C299R.
I got a pair of replacements bearings that should work for many OEM numbers (list below), including my.

The problem is that the old bearing had a really snug fit to the arm and I had to hammer it out hard, the new ones is around 2-3 mm smaller and therefore a bit lose in the hole? That can’t be right?
Should it only be supported by the 4 screws at 65nm?

I started goggeling but I can’t find if there is a different sizes between for example 3M51-2C299-R and 7M51-2C299-AC, and buying a new pair seems like a big risk now as I can’t get my money back for these…

Does anyone know if there are different sizes between all the OEM numbers or if I can use those I have that says it supports:
1230942, 1257342, 1309814, 1355129, 1471852, 1481197, 1491957, 1506577, 1508112, 1766628, 3M512C299R, 3M512C299RAA, 3M512C299RBA, 3M512C299RBB, 3M512C299RBC, 3M512C300RBA, 3M512C300RBB, 7M512C299AA, 7M512C299AB, 7M512C299AC, 7M512C299AD, 7M512C299BC,
Regards

I thought the mk2 only came as a complete hub assembly?

The fronts can be pressed in/out fairly easily, but not the rears.

Yes that is correct a full assembly not bearings alone.

Yes you are both correct, the smaller diameter is on the face/side where you bolt it in, I have attached a foto to show where the diffrence is from old and new.
I would have thought it should be a tight/press fit so your not only relying on the 4 small bolts to hold it in center?

I’ve never done one of these but the design looks like it has to be an exact fit, I can’t believe it would be safe if there’s a gap round that machined circular bit.
