Engine hesitates and jerks under acceleration on motorway - Help!

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I am having an issue with my Focus 1.6 TDCI '13. On the motorway, under heavy acceleration, there is an intermittent hesitation and a jerk before the car accelerates. The revs jump back to normal once this is over.

This happens either when using cruise and pushing '+' to increase the acceleration, and without using cruise and pushing the throttle down.

I have had a recent full service, new fuel filter and housing, and DPF clear out to try and solve the problem. After a week of no issues the issue has just come back last night.

I have a fault code which has now generated using the secret dash method, which is DTC C073_88, but I am not having much joy finding out what the code is.

Any help appreciated as I don't want to keep chucking money at it!

Hello Jack, sorry but that fault code is as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

You need to get the real DTC's using proper software like ForScan installed on a laptop.

Forscan is available free from here:  https://forscan.org/home.html

You will need an ELM327 lead to connect the laptop to your OBDII port. You can get one from Tunnelrat Electronics (£17.95)

The code you have is not a DTC.
