Battery draining after a few days

Featured Replies

Hi we have just purchased a Ford Focus 2lt disease Vignale estate

to or surprise we the car would start on day whilst away

AA came with boost pack and it starts

this as now happened 4 times and now it’s back in Bristol street motor Ford Garge have this looked at

after 10 days now they still have the same fault

all updates have been done

we are starting to think they don’t know what’s wrong

as any one out there had the same problem or can help

Hello Philip and welcome to the FORD OWNERS CLUB 👍

Don't panic its all perfectly normal. So the first thing you need to do is put the battery on charge for a "Full 24 hours" - yes I know your going to say its ok, its been on a run, its had a little charge etc. but please trust me on this. Please connect the charger negative lead to the car bodywork earth point and the positive to the battery terminal.

Next you need to reset the battery State Of Charge monitor (SOC) its very easy to do and if you need the link to the YouTube video I can post it for you.

Now you have to accept that unless you use your car every day and do a decent journey then the problem of the battery running down over a few weeks is going to always be there. It is just how it is on new cars with 'smart charging systems'. A lot of people on the forums have a small trickle charger that they connect up once a week just to keep the battery happy.

If you want to get real fancy you can use software called Forscan (Its free) to adjust the state of charge from the default which is likely to be set at 80% up to something like 90% (as it happens I have mine set to 95%).

Hi all after some help

we have just purchased this car at the end of August with less that 8k on the clock

after our first holiday away recently we came to start the car and the battery was dead

AA came with booster pack and it starts back up. This as now happened 4 times

we have now got this back at Bristol Street Motors we’re it’s been looked at

after 10 or more days after all updates they are no further forwards and still not starting after being left

this is starting to concern us with reliability issues

as anyone else had these problems
