Engine swap

Featured Replies

We have a 2017 focus 1.0l. The engine seized unexpectedly and without warning. Apparently this is a common problem with this engine. We only had 78,000 miles on vehicle and changed oil frequently. We are looking to replace with a 2.0L, but aren't sure if we can. Would there be any issues with transmission compatibility or computer?

Unfortunately I am pretty sure it would be a big, complex job. The ECU will certainly not be compatible, nor will quite a few of the engine bay wiring harnesses. I would be very surprised if the clutch / flywheel and bellhousing matched up. Even if the complete 2l engine / transmission unit were used, driveshafts and engine mounts and quite a few other problem areas would emerge.

Thank you so much! That is not what I was hoping for, but answered my questions and concerns perfectly. I will look at other/better optiins.

If you bought a damaged ST and transferred everything over it would work, but you would need a complete car really as it would cost a fortune to source all the individual components required.

To fit a 2.0 you would need at least

Engine/Gearbox complete assy with all ancillaries and driveshafts

Engine bay harness

Cooling Pack and intercooler

Suspension units (as the 2.0 weighs more than a 1.0

Probably servo and ABS module and ,at least, front brakes

Complete exhaust system.

Plus IPC, PCM and maybe BCM and door modules

Plus, it'd probably drive like a dog and cost a fortune to insure and be worthless to sell.

Put the cheapest 2nd hand replacement engine in you can find and sell it to buy an ST
