Hi everyone, first post problems as usual lol.

2007 1.8 tdci focus estate, only just got it for the other half for a work car, only done 60 miles since getting it and all was ok until today.

She went over to her mums to do a few jobs, rained heavy while she was there, (didnt drive in the rain) and when she came out it wouldnt start, it showed engine system fault. I went over, battery was reading about 9v, put the computer on it (forscan) and checked the codes, cleared them and the only recurring one was p0625 which makes me suspect the alternator.

I put my jump pack on it and got it going and took it home, it starts and drives ok again now and no lights are on. Ive tested it and the voltage is good (not tested under load yet) and the alternator is charging well.

Are there any known issues caused by rain or moisture that may cause this? i know zafira b's have fusebox issues, my pal has one that i cured with a black bag lol.

I dont want to play parts darts as the alternator doesnt look the easiest to do.

Cheers

Tony

Main fuse box /body control module is under glovebox above passenger feet, it hinges down. They do get water in them sometimes, but the result is normally things stop working.wipers/ lights etc.   Alternator is a difficult job on 1.8tdci, I have done one. Had to dismount aircon pump which was below alternator and it was still really difficult. Even getting alternator drive belt off was quite an operation itself. Alternator pulley has a one way clutch in it. These can fail so alternator only spins much slower than it should. But if you are getting good voltage reading it might be a poor battery which needs replacing. Mind you that’s a big heavy expensive one which is quite difficult to remove. All comments based on my brothers 2008 1.8tdci focus mk2.5,  I don’t know if yours is identical.

Re comment above battery being hard to remove, I know it sounds odd, it needs the front section of battery box removing, then pull battery towards front of car , then lift front end of battery up so battery is up on its back end. Otherwise the panel the wipers are on is in the way, above back end of battery. I did a lot of stuff on that car because so many things went wrong. We took it to be crushed because we felt we could not inflict it on anyone else. It was such a disappointment, two years of ownership=two years of pain.  I hope yours turns out ok. I love the 1.8tdci engine, tons of torque, no dpf,

Thanks isetta, had a couple of 1.8s before and have an s-max now, so I know about the battery. Will load test it when I can, not too bothered about working on it, I'm part qualified anyway and have access to garage equipment with an old employer.

It's more the unknown issues on a focus for me, water ingress in unfortunate places etc
