Catalytic convertor light on. Ford focus diesel.

Featured Replies

My partner got caught in the last down pour of rain, she didn't want to carry on down a rain filled road and reversed away.  After stopping for a short while she started the car and the light for the catalytic convertor came on. The car drives OK.  If I give the car a good hot run. would it burn of any water in the Cat. Does having the light on harm the engine?

Thanks Stuart

There shouldn't be any water in the exhaust unless it stalled in the middle of the flood.  I reckon some water has just got into a sensor plug and will be fine when dry.

There's no DPF light on a Mk2 Focus so I guess it's the engine management light that came on?

If it doesn’t go off you need to get a fault code reader on it. About 20 quid from tunnelrat. Use free windows software from forscan. It’s cheaper than paying for a garage to check the fault code.
