Hi all  I bought my 1.6 Ford Focus with only one key.  Went into Timpsons and they wanted £130.00 Smackaroonies for a new key with buttons and circuit board

On eBay the key with buttons and circuit board is £10.00.  Obviously needs cutting

Has anyone bought a key of eBay and programmed it in and its worked?

That's cheap! My local Timpsons wanted £230!! (Obviously, I didn't bother, that's likely more than my car is worth LOL)

Well I would guess that most sold on eBay probably work or there would be a lot of unhappy customers.

You will need the exact key type for your car.

The buttons are easy to programme, but the PATS transponder chip needs to be programmed using ForScan (with licence £10)

I did one for a 2008 mk2.5 focus. Got the key blade cut from a photo of my key on eBay. Bought the other part of key on eBay ( the black plastic part with buttons on and circuit board and 4d63 transponder chip).Used forscan with extended licence on a windows laptop with a usb cable code reader elm device from tunnelrat . Very pleased with myself that it all went fine.  Check which transponder chip you need. I had to be careful to get a 4d63 chip, not a 4d60.

Me: but i'm looking at it on your display !

Timpson: no you've got to buy it from us!

Me: Grrrrrrrrrrr!

The program is the easy part.

I've had Ford tibbe keys cut at the local Jaguar Dealership. Since its not a key they would supply (Ford) the parts department are happy to cut it for £10 cash

Many thanks for your message. Just out of interest how is a tibbe key cut.  Are there numbers on it somewhere? How can they see from a photo. If a photo us good enough can you give me an eBay prrson who can cut from a photo

You can learn to read the key pattern with practice.

There are a total of 6 key cuts (A to F), each position is approx 1.5mm wide. Each cut can be only be cut to one of four possible positions (1 = not cut, 4 = maximum cut).

You read the key starting at the shaft end working towards the tip. Remember that sometimes two positions next to each other may be both cut the same which makes that part of the key 3mm instead of the normal 1.5mm

In the first example photo below the key number is 234422

The one I got cut from photo was not a tibbe key it was the newer flat type for 2008 mk2.5, but there are eBay sellers doing tibbe from photo. Put in search something like: focus key cut photo
