crankshaft axial play causes Powershift to leak oil ??

Featured Replies

Hey,

Would like some help.

As you can read in another topic I have a leaking powershift automatic transmission.
Already made 2 attempts to solve this and so far no success.

Now it's the third attempt and now they "think" they know.
Too much axial play on the crankshaft would cause the powershift transmission to leak.

The idea was to replace the crankshaft main bearings, but they don't seem to be available separately.
In fact, at the Ford dealer you can only buy the complete package (crankshaft, piston pliers, pistons, etc.)
And replacing the complete crankshaft... well... those are expensive repairs

Question:
-Anyone had any experience with axial play on the crankshaft resulting leakage on the automatic transmission ?
-Are crankshaft main bearings available separately? (you hear different stories)

Well I might be 100% wrong but my first reaction to this is "BullS###"

Have you got rubber bendy 'conrods' fitted to the crankshaft ?

Hello,

So what we know.
The car garage told me axial play is 0,5mm

the Ford dealer told me according the specsheets the tolerance is between 0,22-0,45mm

So is there really a cranshaft play issue ???

Given that the measured value of 0.5mm was most likely done with an 'un-calibrated' device there is a good reason to think the true value was less and therefore is within the correct parameters for your engine.

You need to find a new garage and a mechanic who's not talking out their a##e !

Hi Uno, yes thats exactly what I intimated in my answer to the OP over on the TalkFord forum, as per link in my above post last Wednesday

Hello,

They have measured the axial play of the crankshaft and it's 0,38mm.

The tolerance according to Ford is 0.22mm-0.45mm. So the crankshaft play is not an issue ???

So now we want to replace the flywheel.
We are unable to find this one in storage (searched in the EU)
They are all in backorder with no delivery date.

Anyone knows where else I can find the Ford part 1731851 ?

Thx,

Edward

Have you tried autodoc?

You need to find a different garage !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BUT if you really want to keep using the same garage why not get them to change the head light bulbs ? it will have the same result
