ford mondeo mk3 1.8 sedan. Weight reduction and tuning. HELP

Featured Replies

Hello from Greece. I own a facelift late 2005 mondeo 1.8 petrol. I am pretty happy with my car and mechanically is in good condition as it has just 90.000km. I want to make it faster and handle better. I could replace the engine with a 3.0 v6 BUT the taxes here for a big engine are crazy. For a 1.8 liter for insurance and taxes i pay like 500 euros per year and with a 3 liter i would pay 2000 euros. Also with spirited driving my consumption is around 8 liters(35mpg).

Now i removed spare tyre , jack and everything in the back and also the carpets inside , the engine cover, the manual from the car etc. I measured the weight that i removed and it was 40kg. The car feels faster and more agile. So my next move is to delete ac that i rarely use(15-20kg), replace the heavy 60ah battery that weight 20kg with a lithium ion battery(-18kg) and replace the heavy electric seats with light bucket seats(maybe 30-40kg weight reduction).

For the handling i am planning to order koni sport dampers and eibach springs or maybe bilstein b8 and eibach are better? Also i don't want to ruin the engine so i am planning a light tuning and gain maybe 20hp. With a chip, kn air induction kit and a lightweight straight pipe is it possible? Also i will delete the back box that weighs 7kg. So more weight reduction there. The car weighs 1360-1370kg from factory so with all the modifications it should be around 1220kg. It will not be fast but maybe nippy. Also i want to change the steel rims with lightweight 17 inch 215/45 tyres. I think steel rims weigh 20 pounds each and rims like enkei rpf1 weigh 15lbs. So more weight reduction there.

Finally i will repaint the car as i don't like silver. I am thinking black color. Can someone tell me what black colour is this and which rims and what color?
