Intermittent Loss Of Power

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've got a manual 2013 Ford fiesta MK7 TDCI diesel that has an issue where i'll be in any gear giving it strong acceleration and everything is working as normal but then if i keep my foot down for more than 3 seconds the throttle cuts and although my foot is still down the car is no longer accelerating. Raising my foot then pressing down again instantly solves the issue and i'm perfectly fine to drive.

Has anyone had anything like this in the past or have any suggestions as to what i can take a look at first? I'm thinking fuel filter might be blocked up but not entirely sure.

Thanks!!

Mark

Check the brake pedal switches are not operating intermittently, or make sure you aren't catching the brake pedal with the edge of your throttle foot - as if you try for instance to left-foot-brake, you will find as soon as you touch the brake pedal, the throttle will instantly be cut to zero, even on full throttle. This is to prevent people hitting the throttle in an emergency brake situation, the brake pedal gets priority if both are detected at the same time.

If there is no EML then I'd think something like the above is happening. A blocked fuel filter would cause fuel pressure issues so I'm sure an EML would be lit and codes stored.

Ended up being a faulty brake light switch, replaced for £10 and everything’s back to normal!

thanks a lot
